Sunil Rao

Sunil is an international human rights law expert, academic and legal practitioner in the area of regulatory compliance of business and modern slavery. He is currently a Lecturer in Law at La Trobe University with research speacialisation in business and human rights. A former Special Counsel at Baker McKenzie, where he advised business on the protection of human rights in local and complex global supply chains, including Australian and foreign businesses on compliance with modern slavery reporting legislation in UK, California and Australia.

Sunil has authored three books:

  • Modern Slavery Legislation – Drafting History and Comparisons between Australia, UK and the USA (Routledge, 2020)
  • Modern Slavery & Supply Chain Reporting (Thomson Reuters, 2019)
  • Trafficking of Children for Sexual Exploitation (Oxford University Press, 2014)

These books demonstrate originality and contribution to the emerging field of modern slavery.
